Resisting arrest. Battery on a peace officer. Assault on an officer. Obstructing an executive officer under Penal Code § 69. Evading. These charges have a pattern. They are frequently added after the fact — stacked onto an arrest to justify the force that was used, to justify a stop that was shaky to begin with, or to get ahead of a complaint about how the officer behaved. The body camera footage tells a different story than the report far more often than the prosecution would like. An officer's version of events is not the law of the land. It is testimony, and testimony can be cross-examined.
